Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Health Equity, Social Determinates of Health, Culturally Appropriate Care. What do these and other phrases mean? How do they impact the work we do in the dental office and with our patients? In this course, you’ll learn the basics of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including key terms and concepts, as well as the positive impact that addressing DEI can have on your team members, your practice, and your patients.
Starting in 2024, Washington state will require all licensed health care providers to complete continuing education in the area of Health Equity. This is an opportunity to begin building on your knowledge of this important topic and its relationship to patient care.
This course is Part One of a Two-Part Series; the second course is titled “Care, Compassion & Connection: Delivering Culturally Appropriate Care in the Dental Office.”
Learning Objectives:
Learn from patient stories how their experiences with oral health care providers and systems shape their attitudes and behaviors, and contribute to oral health disparities.
Build on understanding and use of the language and terminology of cultural humility/competency.
Build curiosity and motivation to learn and do more as individuals to decrease oral health disparities.
